The Graduate Department of Marital and Family Therapy with Specialized Training in Art Therapy in the College of Communication and Fine Art at Loyola Marymount University is seeking a tenured or tenure-track faculty member to contribute to its history of excellence in art therapy training. Applicants with expertise and commitment to art therapy's role in the promotion of social, cultural, and economic justice are invited to consider contributing to an exciting, multi-layered educational mission. The department is comprised of a master's degree program (MFT with specialized training in clinical art therapy), an intercultural summer exchange program, a community outreach art therapy clinic, a journal dedicated to the exploration of clinical art therapy, an institute focused on art therapy inquiry, and a variety of community arts projects. Based on its experiences during the pandemic, the department is experiencing growth in the direction of both an increased international and an online presence.
Applicants are expected to have earned a doctorate and either currently meet institutional requirements for tenure and promotion or demonstrate strong evidence of the capacity to engage in scholarship toward tenure. For applicants with a strong history of publication and leadership, there is both promotional and tenure potential at the time of hiring. Additional requirements are a comprehensive history of clinical practice, activate membership in the American Art Therapy Association, license, or licensure eligibility in the State of California. Eligible for ATR-BC. Applicants should have a strong commitment to systems theory and experience in clinical work, teaching, community service, and scholarship. We especially value research and clinical interests that cross traditional boundaries of topics and methodology and we encourage applicants to consider how innovative backgrounds might complement the current strengths and mission of the department, particularly its emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusivity as it relates to anti-oppressive, anti-racism, and cultural humility. We are looking for a candidate with a strong record of clinical excellence, a deep understanding, agenda and/or record of research, experience in community service projects; in short, an individual who can step into active department participation and or leadership in varying aspects of departmental governance.
Application Process:
All interested applicants must apply online. Inquiries (including those regarding required materials) should be directed to Dr. Louvenia Jackson, Search Committee Chair, Louvenia.Jackson@lmu.edu. Materials consist of letter of application, curriculum vitae, writing sample, and teaching philosophy, evidence of degree/certificates, and the names and addresses of three references. For fullest consideration, all materials should be received by December 15, 2023.
