Responsibilities:

Eugene Lang College, the undergraduate liberal arts division of The New School, invites applications from qualified scholars and practitioners for part-time faculty positions teaching hybrid theory/practice courses in Code as a Liberal Art, a critical computer science program that offers hands-on coding instruction within an arts, humanities, and social sciences curriculum.

At Lang, social justice is the ethical core of a liberal arts education. The college is committed to ensuring an equitable, inclusive, and socially just environment for our students, staff, and faculty. That commitment requires recruiting students, staff, and faculty who reflect the diversity of thought, experiences, and identities of our global society. It also requires pedagogy, policies, and practices that institutionalize the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Recent and future course topics include:
  • Creative software practice such as live coding;
  • Distant reading, natural language processing, and other techniques in the digital humanities;
  • Critical interventions in the development & deployment of large language models & other AI technologies;
  • Techniques for identifying and redressing racial, ethnic, and gender bias in software systems;
  • Software and disability;
  • Low carbon computing and other studies of digital technology & the environment;
  • Critical game studies and game development;
  • Algorithmic and quantitative research methods;
  • The infrastructure, geography, and political economy of digital networks;
