Job Summary: | Administrator and Curator to oversee the day-to-day business of the museum and deliver its mission. They are responsible for the management and operation of the House and Museum, its facilities, collections, and programs. The Administrator and Curator provides leadership to the organization, ensures a high-quality experience for visitors and the community, and participates in fundraising and financial planning. The Administrator and Curator provides access for faculty, staff, students, and university guests to this historic landmark, is committed to the stewardship of the building and collections, engages with community members, and is dedicated to its future through support for development and fundraising. The position is supported through the Emma Gould Blocker Fund, and supervised by the Director of the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum (RCCAM) of the College of Creative Arts at Miami University. The McGuffey House and Museum is part of the Museums Miami Center, and plays an active role in this support organization. The position is for 12 months and is renewable annually contingent on performance and funding. |

Minimum Qualifications: |
Bachelor’s degree in History, Library Science or Museum Studies, Education, Art History, or a related arts or humanities field; Minimum three years as an employee at a museum, library or archive, historical house or organization, educational institution, or non-profit institution.

Desired Qualifications: |
Consideration may be given to candidates with Master’s degree or related professional degree with specialization in a relevant field, such as History, Library Science or Museum Studies, Education, Art History, or a related arts or humanities field; Prior experience in the non-profit sector is desirable, as is demonstrated success in grant-writing; Experience in management of collections; Experience in archives and digitization best practices. Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment; Knowledge of computers and office applications; Some knowledge of administrative procedures which may include budgeting, research, preparing reports and evaluations; Work well with others as part of a team, ranging from student assistants, staff, faculty and volunteer docents; Research skills; Ability to communicate effectively in written form; Skill in communicating effectively orally / in person as appropriate for the needs of the audience; Knowledge of World History and American history, familiarity with 19th to 20th century art, antiques and historical archives; Knowledge of federal and state policies and procedures and legal regulations relating to collections and historic landmarks; Knowledge and use of Collections Management Systems, such as TMS or similar; Experience and knowledge of varied materials and preservation needs for collections in museum environment; Experience with not-for-profit fundraising and/or use of Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools.
