Duties:
The Department of Anthropology at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites
applications for a tenure-track appointment in anthropology at the level of Assistant Professor to
begin in the Fall semester of 2024. We seek an environmental or medical anthropologist whose
teaching and research broadly addresses the theme of inequality. Although geographic area is
open, preference will be given to candidates with experience in Africa or Native/indigenous North
America; Anthropological sub-field (i.e., archaeological, biological, cultural, or linguistic
anthropology) is open.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing introductory courses, anthropological
theory, quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as developing new upper-division
courses in their specialty. The standard teaching load for this position is 18 credits per year (generally a 3:3 teaching load). The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of excellence in teaching and advising, scholarship, and campus service. Qualifications:
Required:
- Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field completed by September 2024
- Specialization in environmental or medical anthropology; with a research focus on Africa or Native/Indigenous North America
Preferred:
- Preference given to candidates with an active research program with ability to secure external funding and a strong record of teaching excellence
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and to student involvement in research
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines as well as different programs
on campus
