The Department of Anthropology at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites
applications for a tenure-track appointment in anthropology at the level of Assistant Professor to
begin in the Fall semester of 2024. We seek an environmental or medical anthropologist whose
teaching and research broadly addresses the theme of inequality. Although geographic area is
open, preference will be given to candidates with experience in Africa or Native/indigenous North
America; Anthropological sub-field (i.e., archaeological, biological, cultural, or linguistic
anthropology) is open.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing introductory courses, anthropological
theory, quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as developing new upper-division
courses in their specialty. The standard teaching load for this position is 18 credits per year (generally a 3:3 teaching load). The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of excellence in teaching and advising, scholarship, and campus service.
