Duties:
in the nation. Devoted to the exploration and analysis of the history and culture of African
people in the United States, Caribbean, and Africa, Black Studies defines the Black experience
from an African and Afro-American perspective and seeks to illuminate the contribution of
African people to world culture and correct a traditional approach to the study of world history

Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
- Teach six courses (18 credits) per year
- Maintain an active record of research and publication
- Participate in department and university service
Qualifications:
- PhD in Black Studies (or related area), English or another area in the Humanities with a specialization in African American Literature and/or Black Feminist Theory. Exceptional
ABD candidates with a definite completion date will be considered.
Preferred: - Post-secondary teaching experience highly desired
- Experience mentoring and/or advising students with diverse backgrounds highly desired
- Evidence of a serious commitment to scholarship; record of outstanding teaching: commitment to teaching, research, and service, and to the mission of public higher education
