Departmental Overview
The Goldman School of Public Policy (GSPP) has 27 Ladder Rank faculty, nine adjunct faculty, nine affiliated faculty, and 13 emeriti faculty, and more than 60 staff members supporting its mission.
The School is primarily a graduate school, with four-degree programs at the graduate level: The Masters of Public Policy (MPP); the Masters of Public Affairs (MPA); the Masters of Development Practice (MDP); and our PhD program in Public Policy.
It also enrolls more than 1500 undergraduates in elective classes, and has more than 600 students in its undergraduate minor. The School has approximately 300 Master's degree candidates, 12 PhD students and occupies more than 40,000 assignable square feet, within which are five classrooms and more than 100 offices. It has more than 3,000 alumni.
GSPP hires more than 60 graduate student instructors, readers, lecturers and graduate student researchers annually. Its constituency also includes parents, friends and a number of organizations representing state, federal and local government and policy organizations. It is consistently ranked as one of the top graduate schools of public policy in the nation, currently ranked first among Policy Analysis and Social Policy graduate schools by US News and World Report, and ranked fourth nationally in the fields of Public Affairs and Environmental Policy & Management.

Responsibilities
- Working with a high degree of independence and in consultation with the Senior Assistant Dean of Academic Programs, and the Associate Dean of the School, the incumbent recommends standard course cadence to be offered each term based upon school requirements for PhD/MPA/MPP/MDP graduate degrees, and the undergraduate Public Policy minor.
- The incumbent observes enrollment trends, and tracks faculty availability for teaching core courses and breadth courses in the School and its associated degree program requirements.
- Working closely with the Office of the Registrar, the incumbent assumes direct responsibility for scheduling classrooms for all UG and graduate lectures, seminars, and discussion sections each term.
- This entails making sure course format and schedules match the campus norms and percentages of courses offered in peak hours, and non-peak hours.
- When appropriate, asks for exceptions in scheduling office assignments.
- Devises solutions to classroom space and scheduling conflicts and problems, taking into account the curriculum needs of students, the needs of faculty, and available options, both in terms of GSPP-controlled instructional space, and General Assignment classrooms controlled by the Office of the Registrar.
- Instructional spaces have differing attributes, and the incumbent must match pedagogical requirements of the instructional faculty, the Graduate Student Instructors, with the available classrooms.
- Provides enrollment support for students, and in particular replies to Undergraduate enrollment email inquiries.
- Works with Student Services team, faculty, cross-listed departments and various campus entities to resolve all student enrollment issues, ensuring maximum enrollment into classes while adhering to department and campus policies.
- Duties include dropping, swapping, and enrolling students, problem resolution and processing all Concurrent Enrollment applications.
- Ensures that academic student employees (ASEs) in fee-remission eligible titles such as GSR and GSI are registered and enrolled in at least 12 units each semester, to ensure their fee remission according to Graduate Division and Labor Relation mandates.
- Projects future course planning based upon faculty availability, taking into account sabbaticals, fellowships and grants, internal and external administrative assignments, and courses taught in other departments and/or other universities.
- Communicates with Senior Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and other departments on coordination of cross-listed courses, room shares, and other unusual scheduling instances.
- Oversees textbook and desk copy ordering processes, ensuring that faculty orders are submitted, and facilitating as needed.
- Promotes core and breadth course offerings each term by posting descriptions to the GSPP website and via email to students on internal GSPP list-servs.
- Manages communications between Office of the Registrar and instructors as needed, ensuring instructors are apprised of key information throughout the term.
- Communicates Final Exams schedule to students and faculty, including scheduled rooms and times assigned by the Office of the Registrar.
- Oversees textbook and desk copy ordering processes, ensuring that faculty orders are submitted, and facilitating as needed.

- Advises Senior Assistant Dean of Academic Programs on complex curricular issues and recommends courses of action when new courses, degrees, certificate programs, curricular tracks or programs are introduced.
- Utilizes extensive knowledge of course content, facilitates new course approval and curriculum revisions through interaction with the Academic Senate Committee on Courses of Instruction (COCI), or similar organization.
- Provides support in the course evaluation process.
- Participates in professional training and development opportunities as appropriate.
- Serves on campus, college, or department committees as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned, to advance goals of the Student Services team and GSPP as a whole.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work.
- Must complete mandated annual training.
- This job is not eligible for 100% remote work.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of and/or can quickly learn common University-specific computer application programs, including the SIS scheduling and enrollment system.
- Thorough knowledge of and/or can quickly learn department, campus, and University policies, procedures, and directives.
- Through knowledge of and/or can quickly learn department and school/college general and major course and degree requirements.
- Advanced interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department senior management, faculty, and students.
- Advanced ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends.
- Advanced ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.
- Familiarity with FERPA guidelines and student data protections.
- Advanced communication skills with a broad range of community members-including faculty, staff, domestic and international students.
- This includes an advanced level of written and verbal presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create presentations, and deliver them to large audiences using persuasive public speaking skills.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated strong commitment to customer service for all constituencies.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of common Customer Resource Management, Oracle, Google, and Microsoft Office products, in addition to University-specific computer application programs, including bCourses, Campus Solutions, UC Berkeley Course Evaluation system, CalCentral and the Course Management System.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $59,100.00 - $101,700.00.
