Detailed Job Description
The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) welcomes applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Cognitive Science, at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level, to begin in the fall of 2024. Responsibilities will include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, publishing high-quality scholarly research, and securing extramural research funding to support and advise graduate students in our new PhD program in Cognitive Science. This new program is jointly offered by five RIT colleges, including the College of Science, the College of Liberal Arts, the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. The successful applicant will have the unique opportunity to contribute significantly to building and growing this exciting new interdisciplinary program.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct externally funded research involving graduate and undergraduate students. The area of research specialization is open, but the ability to conduct research and teach in the field of cognitive neuroscience is highly desirable. We are particularly interested in candidates whose interests complement existing strengths on campus, provide new opportunities for collaboration across colleges, and use research methods that permit the inclusion of a diverse participant pool. Also desirable are post-doctoral research experience, teaching experience, and potential for NIH funding. The successful applicant will have obtained their Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree prior to the position start date. Evidence of a commitment to Open Science practices is also highly valued. The Assistant or Associate Professor of Cognitive Science will also be expected to demonstrate excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and a history of active consideration of the needs of a diverse student body will be advantageous.
The new faculty member will receive competitive salary and benefits, including medical, dental, paid family leave, tuition waiver, and retirement savings. They will be supported with research startup funding and laboratory space commensurate with their research needs and experience.
We are seeking an individual who can and is interested in contributing to a community committed to student-centeredness; professional development; scholarship; integrity and ethics; respect, diversity and pluralism; innovation and flexibility; and teamwork and collaboration. Select to view links to RIT's core values, honor code, and statement of diversity.
