The Department of Sport Management in the Leo J. Meehan School of Business at Stonehill College invites applicants for two available openings for tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sport Management (one of the openings is open rank) starting Fall 2024. The selected candidates would join the business school consisting of 29 full-time faculty with a wide range of disciplinary expertise and a commitment to fostering diversity among faculty and students. This is an on-campus position, and a qualified candidate must teach on the physical Stonehill College campus. The Meehan School of Business at Stonehill College is AACSB accredited and offers majors in Accounting, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems, International Business, Sport Management, Marketing, Healthcare Management*, and Economics*. The school also offers minors in Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Healthcare Management, and Economics.
*The Meehan School of Business offers AACSB-accredited BSBA degrees in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, General Management, Management Information Systems, International Business, and Sport Management along with an AUPHA-certified BA degree in Healthcare Management and a BA in Economics.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
We seek applicants with a strong interest in teaching and scholarship in the fields of Sport Management, Sport Marketing, or Sport Analytics. Candidates should have the ability and desire to teach a variety of undergraduate business courses. A professional background in Sport and/or Sport Management, with progressively increasing responsibility, is desirable. One of the positions is open rank, which means that it can be filled at the assistant professor or associate professor level and is open to candidates at various career stages. Applicants with administrative experience at the department level are especially encouraged to apply.
Courses May Include:
- BUS 215 – Introduction to Sport Management
- BUS 313 – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Sports
- BUS 314 – Sport Analytics
- BUS 348 – Sport Marketing
- BUS 452 – Sports and the Law
- BUS 453 – Sport Event Management
- Other sport management topic courses (e.g., sponsorship and sales, e-sports, Sport operations)
Applicants must specifically address in their cover letter and/or teaching statement which of the above courses they have the ability to teach.
The typical teaching load is three courses per semester (fall/spring) with the option to teach courses during summer and winter sessions.
Education & Experience
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D., DBA, DPS, or other doctoral degree in Sport Management/Sport Business or a related field. Doctoral candidates who will have finished their degree by September 1, 2024, will be considered. A strong preference will be given to applicants who possess at least five years of both professional and academic experience in the Sports ecosystem as well as experience teaching undergraduate business students.
Applicants with relevant peer-reviewed publications are preferred. The applicant must have a commitment to ongoing research productivity and demonstrate participation in the broader academic community in terms of journal review responsibilities, participation in academic conferences, and other academic roles.
A commitment to service to the Department, School, and College is also essential. The applicant must show a strong interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students and enjoy working closely with student advisees to establish academic and professional goals.
