80% Instructor, SPELC in Simulation/Skills Education, Nursing Department

The Department of Nursing is seeking an 80% FTE Instructor, SPELC in Simulation/Skills Education for its Baccalaureate Programs to teach as a Simulation Educator throughout the nursing programs. This position includes teaching and participation in department and university governance. Course lecturing and/or skills laboratory instruction; Simulation coordination; Scheduling; Technical operations of scenarios; Technical staff orientation and training; Simulation research; Liaison between departments.

Position Annual Hiring Salary: $60,000 - $65,000

Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Acts as part of the Experiential Learning Team
• Orients faculty and or students to the skills or simulation spaces and equipment
• Orders and maintains equipment and supplies using financial stewardship and ensuring equipment and supplies meet instructor and student needs according to the course syllabus.
• Coordinates and maintains lab scheduling while clearly communicating nursing skills laboratory courses and open lab times.
• Uses evidence-based practice and measures that are current within the nursing community.
• Performs yearly inventory, projects skills, and simulation lab needs, practices financial stewardship, maintains vendor relations, maintains spreadsheets, and ensures invoices are processed.
• Provides instruction and remediation to students at all levels of pre-licensure nursing programs according to current class content and course outcomes.
• Oversees and/or conducts Open Lab Sessions for all nursing students to practice any skill they choose while ensuring students learn the appropriate skills needed to succeed in their nursing program.
• Discusses, investigates, evaluates, and recommends new equipment/technologies that can be incorporated into the nursing curriculum.
• Trains and aids faculty in the use of new equipment and software.
• Ensures the experiential learning areas are orderly, clean, safe, and organized.
• Collaborates with faculty to provide course-related skills days.
• Remains current in nursing subject matter and techniques of effective instruction.
• Participates in Fit testing of students and or faculty.
• In collaboration with the Director of Experiential Learning, develop policy/procedure or Standard Operating Procedures for experiential learning areas.
• Oversees laundry cleaning and delivery and medical waste disposal.
• Initiates or participates in process improvement.
• Informs Dean and Director of Experiential Learning of special laboratory needs and/or requests.

Simulation Related Responsibilities

• Serves as a faculty resource to facilitate simulation experiences and integration into the curriculum.
• Develops and delivers faculty development related to the use and integration of best practices related to simulation methodology according to international standards for simulation.
• Observes, evaluates and identifies the needs of and makes recommendations for various nursing simulation experiences to enhance students' learning.
• Writes low and high-fidelity simulation scenarios with faculty consultation.
• Participates in simulation evaluation, revision, data collection, and research.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates student simulation experiences.
• Collaborates with faculty from other disciplines to facilitate interdisciplinary simulation.
• Uses experiential learning-related software and programs to track, schedule, report, and communicate simulation-related activities.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform basic medical/surgical skills instruction.
• Able to operate simulation-related equipment.
• Willing to be flexible with workdays that may include evenings and weekends.
• Attend faculty meetings as required or requested.
• Participate in committee work of the department.

Job Requirements:
Knowledge:

• Medical Surgical patient knowledge
• Understanding of the principles of simulation, teaching, and learning
• Strong understanding of evidenced-based practice

Abilities and Skills:

• A track record of excellent teamwork, organization, and leadership skills.
• Medical Surgical skills
• Computer applications and operations
• Strong organizational skills

Education:

• A baccalaureate degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college or University.
• An earned master's or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited college or University is preferred.

Experience:

• One year of full-time experience in patient care within the past 5 years.
• One year of clinical teaching experience is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

• A clear and current California Registered Nurse license.
