The Berkeley School of Education (BSE) is one of the nation's top-ranked schools of education, offering unparalleled scholarship and professional training that prepares future leaders of education policy, practice, and research. With the most diverse faculty and student body of any school at UC Berkeley, in a community rooted in equity and social justice, the students and faculty of the BSE are joined by their shared commitment to understanding and improving the complex world of education. teaching and learning for all students in our schools by preparing the next generation of teachers, administrators, educational researchers, and school psychologists in exemplary academic and professional preparation programs, with an emphasis on working with diverse students in urban settings. BSE graduates make a global impact as researchers, professional educators, leaders, and innovators.
In June 2020, the California Department of Education selected the Principal Leadership Institute (PLI) at the Berkeley School of Education to serve as both the regional and statewide centers for the 21st Century California School Leadership Academy (21 CSLA) program. The 21 CSLA program is designed to support and improve the skills of school leaders at multiple levels - from teacher leaders at Title II schools through system leaders - as they work toward improving campus culture and climate, creating more equitable learning environments, and ultimately boosting student success. This investment in the BSE's leadership programs is an extraordinary affirmation of PLI's impact on educational leadership in the State of California over the last 20 years, and positions the BSE to take a preeminent role in educational leadership in the greater Bay Area, state, and nation.
