About the Position: | Description: The Engineering and Computing Education Programs Office (ECEP) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a 12-month, full time, non-tenure track position at the rank of Lecturer. This position will also serve as Assistant Graduate Program Director (Asst. GPD) for the graduate Professional Engineering Programs (PEP). Responsibilities: The position will have teaching at the Graduate level and administrative responsibilities. That includes advising students, mentoring teaching assistants, helping to shape departmental practices and policies, reviewing applications, conducting industry outreach, and organizing recruitment and engagement events with current and prospective students. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, or an engineering degree in another field with 5 or more years of experience working as a systems engineer. Candidates should also be involved in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence at any level in education or industry. Ideal candidates will also have evidence of strong organizational skills, as well as relevant experience in academia, industry, or government. Candidates who have had a non-academic career are encouraged to apply and should emphasize their commitment to staff development and mentorship. About the Programs: The Professional Engineering Programs have about 20 adjunct faculty and around 200 students. Our growing department offers Engineering Management, Technical Management, and Systems Engineering master’s degrees as well as a range of graduate certificates, including ones in Project Management and Integrated Product Development and Manufacturing. All the programs are tailored to meet the needs of professionals in a variety of fields. The programs prepare working professionals for careers as managers and leaders in their chosen technical fields. Courses are offered on weekday evenings at UMBC’s Catonsville campus or online; courses are taught by professionals; students do not write a thesis; and emphasis is on applications and tools.
