The Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts, the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Public History and Digital Humanities, Tenure Track. The department welcomes applications from publicly engaged scholars who work in all regional fields and time periods but is particularly interested in applicants with experience in GIS or other spatially aware research methods, and/or archival administration and records management.
Essential Duties:
The successful candidates will maintain a productive research agenda, pursue outside funding when appropriate, contribute to the Department's current public-facing digital history projects or develop new ones, teach a 3-2 course load, contribute to curricular programs and oversee internships related to the Department's graduate certificate programs in Public History and/or Archival Administration, recruit and train exceptional students, and participate in university and professional affairs.
Required Qualifications:
· Ph.D. in History or related field (by time of appointment)
· Experience in higher education and/or in the field of public history
· Demonstrated interest in engaging with communities beyond professional historians
· Demonstrated expertise in digital presentations of historical interpretations.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Archival administration experience, including familiarity with how the creation and preservation of historical content shapes policy in non-academic entities (government, business, law, non-profits, etc.)
· Demonstrated track record of securing grants or other outside funding and the ability to contribute to departmental strengths.
· Familiarity with issues of Universal Design and accessibility for public history and archives.
