Instructors should have experience teaching students with intellectual, developmental, physical, and social challenges. Most classes are weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm and may require travel to an off-campus location. Some classes may be in the evening or on weekends. Courses offered include reading, writing, math, life skills and personal enrichment (e.g. money management, independent living, art, music, civics, and stress management).
Responsibilities include: (1) preparing and teaching lessons for students with disabilities functioning at different levels in the classroom; (2) classroom management of student behaviors; (3) completing paperwork- a syllabus for each class, attendance rosters, registration forms, student evaluations, and any other required paperwork; (4) coordinating and collaborating with the staff of client agencies. Pay rate for non-credit courses in Continuing Education are commensurate with education and experience qualifications.
- Academic and/or professional expertise teaching students with developmental or other disabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Two years of experience teaching or training in a special education classroom setting or inclusive environment; or the equivalent.
- Computer Proficiency to include Microsoft software and applications as well as experience integrating technology into curriculum.
- Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
- Experience in teaching essential work (soft) skills, communication/listening skills, anger management, stress management, art, music, cooking, and other life skills are preferred.
