Salary: $25.00 per hour
Location: San Bernardino, CA
Program Summary:
The Family Attachment Interventions Through Healing Solutions (FAITHS) Throughcare Program will recruit, train, and administrate graduate-level interns in salient Social and Behavioral Science fields to provide in-custody and out-of-custody psychotherapeutic interventions to justice-involved individuals and their families.
The Teaching and Loving Kids (TALK) program takes the knowledge learned during in-custody parenting classes and applies it directly to the parent/child relationship once per week in a contact visit at the jail facility. The TALK area is a child-friendly area that is decorated in a daycare-styled fashion with an indoor and outdoor area. The space is equipped with a range of developmentally-appropriate activities to facilitate positive parent/child interactions; there are books, bubbles, games, sports equipment, tricycles, dolls, crafts, etc.
Under the observation of the Lead TALK Associate and TALK Interns, who take a hands-off approach to allow the parents to engage their children, parents are able to practice strategies and techniques learned in class. During the visit, TALK Interns document the interactions based on interventions the parent is learning in class and specific areas the parent has expressed interest in developing. At the end of the TALK program session, parents gather in a group to discuss the evening, receive positive feedback for the healthy ways they engaged with their child [ren], discuss alternate methods if challenges arose, and collaborate on the continued development of their parent/child relationship.
Work Schedule
Up to 19 hours per week. Schedule to be arranged, but typically, Monday through Thursday. Evenings and weekend work may be required.
First Review Deadline
This position will remain open until filled.
