JOB PURPOSE
Seeking an energetic research assistant with first-rate analytical capabilities and outstanding academic credentials to conduct social science research, support teaching and lecture activities, and assist with a range of administrative needs including supporting collaborative international security research initiatives at Stanford. Research areas to include U.S. intelligence, national security, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. The candidate will also be responsible for assisting in organizing workshops with senior U.S. government officials; managing a very busy calendar; arranging domestic and international travel; and completing reimbursements and payments. This position requires the candidate to be on-site in the office 5 days per week, with flexible scheduling.
CORE DUTIES:
* Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment by applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory when precedents do not provide specific guidance. General instruction provided by the Senior Fellow and her research director, as needed. * Identify, select, extract and summarize data and structured information. Present summary of findings. * Conduct literature searches, and write literature summaries and manuscripts. * Track policy topics of high interest for weekly summary roundups and fact check articles and manuscripts before publication. * Develop creative approaches for empirical research with direction from the Senior Fellow and her research director (e.g., open-source intelligence, survey research). May follow up with Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure renewals are approved and completed, seeking guidance where necessary. * Assist with development, communication and design of research findings to internal and external audiences, which may include social media and/or white papers. * Serve as rapporteur for workshops and meetings. * Plan and schedule complex calendar(s) with limited or no consultation, resolve calendaring conflicts. Negotiate and manage the needs of individuals or groups requesting time. * Assist in planning workshops and visits by senior US government officials * May orient and train new staff or students.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Significant coursework in international security issues (a focus on intelligence, cybersecurity, or emerging technology is preferred) * Demonstrated analytical and writing ability * General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master new computer programs. * Ability to work under tight deadlines with general guidance. * Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately. * Excellent oral communication skills. * A passion for learning in an intense, scholarly, policy-oriented environment. * Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative teams.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
* Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. * Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts. * Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls. *Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of the job.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* May be required to work non-standard, extended or weekend hours in support of research work.
The expected pay range for this position is $53,000 - $76,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
