Department Description
The Department of Computer Science is a large complex research unit, one of eight academic departments in the College of Engineering, and provides instruction and research within specialty areas of engineering. As part of a team, the Staff Advisor assists in facilitating the research areas' unique course requirements, recruitment practices, and funding strategies, ensuring programmatic goals and equity are maintained as it relates to the MS Program. The Department has 40 faculty, 3 technical IT Support staff, 11 administrative staff and administers two graduate programs: M.S. and Ph.D. with 400+ graduate students and 1700+ undergraduates. Faculty in the Graduate Group in Computer Science have appointments in departments as diverse as Engineering, School of Medicine, Graduate School of Management, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Physics, Math, Sociology and more. The Graduate Group receives funding in excess of $3M from various funding sources. Computer Science has a large service component to other programs which teaches over 11,000 students per year (over 47,000 SCH).
Job Summary
Under general supervision, as part of a three-person team, develop, manage and implement aspects of a large and complex graduate group in the Department of Computer Science, including academic advising, graduate student recruitment and retention efforts, and programmatic support and development for a large academic unit.
Responsible for providing comprehensive and complex academic advising specifically to the MS Student cohort; communicating and developing policies and procedures that ensure compliance with Graduate Studies rules, regulations, and deadlines. Also assist with advising to PhD students as needed.
As part of the Computer Science student services team, collaboratively assist in developing a team-based approach to student services and provide expertise and assistance in the graduate services and other programmatic areas. This is a critical position with independent management responsibility for graduate support services. Work is performed autonomously under the general direction of the CAO, and Graduate Group Chair.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
