Location:
Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire a Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. This is a full-time, administrator position within Academic Affairs and will start July 1, 2024.

Job Description:
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with students, Staff, and Faculty to implement a student-centered vision for the college that supports the academic and institutional mission and vision.
- Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate high-quality, innovative academic programs for the College of Liberal Arts. Promote the college's educational and research activities. Coordinate the overall assessment and evaluation of the college's programs.
- Provide leadership and supervision that emphasizes commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the recruitment, hiring, promotion, tenure, evaluation, and professional development of faculty and staff of the College of Liberal Arts. Direct the work of faculty and staff, including the approval of faculty assignments and staff position descriptions, training, and orientation of new employees, approval and/or critique of work and performance, and approval of time records and leave requests.
- Promote an academic climate of mutual respect that will facilitate excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. Support a socially responsible community, enhance cultural diversity, and inspire others to work toward common goals.
- Support the success and persistence of a diverse student body, including responding to student complaints.
- Develop and strengthen cooperative arrangements with other institutions to expand enrollment and improve services to the university faculty and students and to the broader community.
- Participate in university planning, policy-making, and executive leadership of the university.
- Provide leadership for program development and implementation, student learning assessment, program evaluation and assessment, external stakeholders and community partners, and budgets.
- Manage complex tasks and adapt to changing institutional priorities using a collaborative and collegial work style.
- Provide consultation for handling personnel problems, responding to employee complaints and grievances, and addressing unusual situations.
- Support involvement and contributions from faculty, staff, and students to foster a dynamic professional environment in the College of Liberal Arts.
- Promote a culture focused on anti-racism, engagement, inclusion, and innovation.
- Supervise and promote professional development of faculty and staff.
- Develop, review, and approve all program planning, college budgets and fiscal plans, and implement plans within the approved budget framework.
- Provide leadership in assuring a welcoming and hospitable environment for a diverse student population and community stakeholders.
- Maintain an educational environment which supports the interests and needs of underrepresented groups.
- Represent the university within the academic community and in professionally related activities of the local, state, regional, national, and international levels and build relationships with organizations to support the work of the College of Liberal Arts.
- Serve on the Academic and Student Affairs Executive Council (ASAeC), the President's Cabinet, assigned University Council(s), and other university taskforces or workgroups as assigned.
- Identify, cultivate, involve, and solicit the community, alums, and friends of the university in developing and sustaining an active external fundraising program.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: A doctorate in one of the College of Liberal Arts disciplinary fields or equivalent terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in a liberal arts field (not limited to the disciplines in the College of Liberal Arts).
- Type and Length of Experience: 5 years of faculty experience and the achievement of tenure, at a regionally accredited higher education setting, and 3 years of administrative/leadership experience as a dean, coordinator, director, department chair or other leadership role.
- Demonstrated record of academic or professional accomplishment and a record of scholarly work and publication and/or creative achievements.
- Demonstrated accomplishments in contributing to cultural, ethnic, and gender diversity and equity.
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a supervisor or a mentor supporting faculty or staff development.
- Evidence of excellent, culturally-responsive communication skills (written and verbal) with a variety of persons and groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A demonstrated commitment to the mission of an urban-focused university.
- Demonstrated experience with innovative academic programs, pedagogical approaches, and/or modes of delivery.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing quality improvement and/or experience with organizational development.
- A record as an accomplished academic leader with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- History of working collaboratively with students/staff/faculty in a team environment.
- Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
- Evidence of grant acquisition and/or fundraising success.
