Description:Founded in 1863, Saint Mary's is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. Qualifications:
Special Topics is designed to explore topical, special-interest areas in the field of Environmental Sciences and Earth Sciences not covered in any existing course. Topics might include environmental seminar, current events and policy, science communication, and environment and social justice intersection. This offering of the class (What We Eat: The Politics of Food, Food Security, and the Future of Protein) explores the relationship between food and the environment in the U.S.A. and beyond. The course will explore the politics and history of food production and consumption, understanding its profound effects on environmental sustainability, social justice, and food security. Through this course, students will gain a comprehensive insight into the socio-political dimensions of our dietary choices and their broader implications for the future of society and the planet. This is an elective course for Environmental and Earth Science majors and is open to all students with an interest in the environment.
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2024 Spring term on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:10 - 6:50 pm.
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in an area of Public Policy, Environmental Policy, Food Security, or a related field.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $9,932 - $13,744 (4 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
