Planner 2 (Project Planner - Special Projects)
The Planning and Economic Development Department has an opportunity for a highly motivated, results-oriented professional. Reporting to the Manager, Planning Implementation, this position initiates, leads and efficiently manages special projects for the Planning Division related to planning analysis and research including the development of reports, development tracking technology and data analytics.
The incumbent will:
- Initiate, lead and undertake information related strategic projects that require complex research/analysis, performance monitoring, planning data and information interpretation and manipulation
- Lead, guide and participate in projects to track progress in achieving Regional planning policy, and preparing and administering any related initiatives
- Advocate for, oversee, implement and support the Region's planning related technology projects, including but not limited to the Division's development tracking system
- Implement Provincial and Regional planning policy and regulations
- Research and analyze planning issues and applications
- Prepare and present reports
- Develop, evaluate and improve operating procedures for managing information related planning projects and
development review processes
- Develop and deliver training on the departmental technology systems
- Prepare, organize and deliver planning evidence as an expert professional planning witness at complex Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) hearings, etc.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A degree in Planning, Geography or related discipline
- GIS Certification
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and achievement of Registered Professional Planner designation
- Several years of demonstrated experience in Planning analysis and research
- Working knowledge of the theories and principles of development tracking systems
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills with a customer service focus
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, particularly related to teaching and training
- Strong understanding and experience with the development application process
- Experience with inputting and extracting data from a database
- Effective project planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
- A valid Class G Driver's License and the use of a reliable vehicle
CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 8
This position is with Salary Grade 8 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:
- Start: $47.08 - Six Month: $49.69 - Job: $52.31
