Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position or lecturer position in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (HSSE) Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota, starting January (preferred) or August 2025. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience, and a competitive fringe benefits package is offered. Lecturers are eligible for professional development support. Final job offer is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts, complete background check, and authorization to work in the United States. Responsibilities
The HSSE Department seeks a generalist who will serve as the faculty director of the First-year Seminar Program (UMC 1200/UMC 1202) and carry a half-time teaching load to include introductory composition and humanities courses. The director will oversee the design and assessment of the UMC 1200/1202 (Introduction to University Life and Problem Solving) courses and provide oversight of the instructors. Depending on the departmentâ™s needs, the candidate will have opportunities to teach more specialized advanced courses.

A tenure-track appointment carries a 24.0 credit hour workload per academic year, distributed over the fall and spring semesters; a lecturer appointment carries 30.0 credit hours. The Director duties will be part of the faculty workload obligation in the form of a reassignment from teaching. Summer teaching may be available for additional compensation. This position is not eligible for VISA or STEM sponsorship.
Minimum Qualifications
Masterâ™s degree in English, American Studies, Composition, Writing Studies, History, or a closely related field
Strong knowledge and experience with program assessment
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to coordinate assessment and review of assessment data
Passion for teaching and student-centered service
Ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences
Effective communication skills
Ability to deliver effective teaching in both the on campus and online environments
Ability to demonstrate cultural competency
Commitment to an experiential educational philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in English, American Studies, Composition, Writing Studies, History, or a closely related field
Experience developing and teaching college-level composition courses, both on-campus and online.
