Akron Children?s Hospital, Paul and Carol David Foundation Burn Institute - a verified Adult and Pediatric Center - is seeking a part-time or full-time burn surgeon to join our burn team. The selected candidate will be board eligible/certified in general surgery or plastic surgery. Completion of a burn fellowship is required and completion of a critical care fellowship is highly encouraged. Interest in research would be additive and is supported by a Research Institute and local academic collaborations.
The Burn Institute provides acute, reconstructive and rehabilitative care for children and adults from a multi-state region who have sustained burn injuries and other complex wounds. Our team is comprised of fellowship trained burn/critical care surgeons, a dedicated burn plastic/reconstructive surgeon, dedicated 24/7 advance practice providers, dedicated burn dressing team, adult and pediatric hospitalist, core burn anesthesiology, dedicated occupational and physical therapists, nutritionist, pharmacist, psychologists, chaplaincy, education/outreach coordinators and dedicated social work/case management, amongst others.
The Institute, currently in the midst of a multi-million dollar renovation, is comprised of a 12 bed inpatient unit, triage area, adjacent 6 bed outpatient clinic, hydrotherapy area(s) for wound care and rehabilitation space. The Institute saw over 1100 new patients last year with 280 admissions and an additional 2000 outpatient visits; and collectively, surgeons performed close to 500 cases. The Institute offers advanced laser therapy and supports an Acute and Reconstructive Burn Fellowship. There is excellent clinical, academic, research and philanthropical support of the program.
Academic appointment is available with Northeast Ohio Medical University and there are teaching opportunities with General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Emergency Medicine residents/fellows as well as medical students.
