NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for a position at the rank of associate professor or full professor (with tenure) in Sociology, to start in Fall 2025. Advanced assistant professor with outstanding publication records will also be considered. Successful candidates will also be able to leverage the resources at the Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER)and contribute to the curriculum development in sociology and related social science fields at NYU Shanghai.
Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions with respect to research start-up funds and compensation, and they include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may in certain cases have the opportunity to spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU Global Network, engaging in both research and teaching.
We seek candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in sociology or a closely related discipline. We invite applications from candidates in any subfield but are particularly interested in those with expertise in migration/immigration, gender, marriage and family, demography, or computational social science. Ideal candidates will have the ability to conduct cutting-edge, innovative, interdisciplinary research with public policy implications and social impact. Candidates should demonstrate the potential to publish in top-tier journals within the discipline and to secure external research grants, both domestic and international.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, and three publications/writing samples via Interfolio. Additionally, those applying at the rank of assistant or associate professor (without tenure) should enter the names and email addresses of at least three referees.
