As part of its newly established Institute for Quantum and Information Sciences, Syracuse University is soliciting applications for multiple faculty positions in the area of quantum science, broadly defined. Multiple positions are available in both theoretical and experimental research fields. Appointments will be made in either the department of Physics or the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as appropriate. The majority of the appointments are expected to be at the assistant professor level, but appointments at the associate or full professor level may be made for exceptional applicants. Potential candidates at more senior ranks are encouraged to contact the search committee chair at admalone@syr.edu to discuss opportunities in the Institute for Quantum and Information Sciences.
Areas of interest for theoretical applicants include all fields of research related to quantum and information science, broadly defined. This includes, but is not limited to, research in holography, gravity and field theory, condensed matter physics, quantum thermodynamics, and quantum algorithms and simulations.
Areas of interest for experimental applicants include all fields of research related to quantum and information science, broadly defined. This includes, but is not limited to, research in superconducting device physics, integrated photonics, quantum sensing and networking, and precision science.
The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to lead an outstanding independent research program, to teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and a commitment to active participation in the departmental and university communities. We welcome applicants committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion and fostering an environment that is supportive and welcoming of all students, faculty, and staff. We actively encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups.
Review of applications will begin on November 30, 2024.
We encourage applicants with questions to contact the chair of the search committee, Alexander Maloney, at admalone@syr.edu.
Step 2: Candidates must submit a cover letter, CV (including a list of publications), a 4-5 page research statement, a 1-2 page teaching statement, a 1-2 page diversity statement, and at least three letters of recommendation to Academic Jobs Online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28487
