Assistant Professor of African International Relations Georgetown University: Main Campus: Walsh School of Foreign Service
Location: Washington, DC Open Date: Sep 26, 2024 Deadline:
Description The Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University seeks to hire a tenure-line Assistant Professor of African International Relations affiliated with our African Studies Program. We are especially interested in candidates who treat Africa as a subject/agent/actor rather than an object/acted upon; and focus on the African voice(s) in international and regional affairs on issues related to economic development, climate change, migration and refugees, and other related urgent concerns of our time. We are open with respect to scholarly discipline; a political scientist may be well suited, but it is also possible that the best scholar for this position is working in an adjacent discipline like history, anthropology, sociology or geography. A doctorate degree is required.
The African Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program focused on cultural and social, political and economic questions, and drawing student interest across the university.
Georgetown seeks faculty generating internationally impactful scholarship and committed to engaged teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae and cover letter explaining how your scholarship and teaching fit this position's focus (as described above). At a later date, short-listed candidates will be asked to submit recommendations and evidence of teaching record (syllabi, course evaluations, etc.). SFS is committed to student and faculty diversity, equity, and inclusion.
All applications and supporting materials must be submitted through the following link: http://apply.interfolio.com/155789. Faxed, emailed, or mailed applications will not be accepted. Questions about the online application system should be directed to Lauren Bauschard, Director of Faculty Affairs, at lb1230@georgetown.edu. Questions about the position should be directed to Katharine Donato, SFS Faculty Chair, at kmd285@georgetown.edu
The projected salary range for this position is $93,591 - $103,990, which represents the full range of anticipated compensation for this position. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
Review of applications will begin on October 28, 2024; submissions will remain open until the position is filled.
