Engaging High School History Teacher Needed at Springfield Commonwealth Academy

Position: Full-Time or Part-Time History Teacher for High School

Responsibilities:
Create and instruct extensive history courses that address a range of historical eras and geographic locations, emphasizing critical thinking and contextual understanding (adhering to SCA’s curriculum, aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for History and Social Science).
Motivate students to investigate and comprehend the intricacies of history, encompassing the varied viewpoints and elements that influence global occurrences.
Involve students of different learning styles and skill levels with a range of teaching tactics, including as projects, discussions, and digital resources.
To foster students' intellectual development and comprehension of historical themes, evaluate their progress and provide insightful comments.
Create an atmosphere in the classroom that values curiosity, respect for different points of view, and an interest in history.
Work together with the Humanities department to include interdisciplinary methods into your instruction.
Engage in active participation in conferences, school meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Involve the school community in activities and events that advance a more comprehensive awareness and knowledge of history and its applicability to current problems.
Implement interventions for students who struggle with the taught and tested curriculum
Create a classroom environment that provides for student participation in the learning process and enable each student to achieve learning objectives
Provide a safe and optimal learning environment; set excellent standards for academic success and classroom behavior
Plan to be accessible to parents and students for education-related matters outside of assigned tasks; and provide feedback to parents, students, and administration regarding goals, expectations, and other aspects of the students' progress.
Understand and effectively convey SCA’s philosophy, vision and mission.
Develop reasonable rules of behavior and procedure in the classroom.
Participate in school management and share responsibility for the overall program.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Education with a specialization in History, or a related field.
A valid Massachusetts teaching certification in History/Social Studies for high school(preferred)
Demonstrated experience in teaching History at the high school level, with a solid hold of historical content, historiography and historiographical narratives.
Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and the community.
A commitment to continuous learning and applying innovative teaching methods in the classroom.
