The Department of Political Science invites applications for a Professional Legal Studies tenure-eligible pedagogical assistant or associate professor appointment to begin August 2025. Pedagogical faculty members are expected to bring a high level of conceptual and practical ideas to their instructional tasks and to have innovative skill sets that enhance the intellectual development of their colleagues and the students with whom they interact.
This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-eligible position. Review of applications will begin on November 17, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
The primary expectation for the position is the delivery of high-quality instruction for the Professional Legal Studies program. This program, formerly known as the Paralegal Studies Program, is committed to provide students with knowledge of procedural and substantive law and a professional skill set that will prepare them for employment in a changing and competitive legal environment. This program is approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) and has experienced substantial growth in both its bachelor's and certificate offerings over the past few semesters. Additional program degree options and curriculum can be found at https://www.wku.edu/political-science/professional-legal-studies/.
Pedagogical faculty appointments do not carry an expectation of involvement in scholarly research. Therefore, familiarity and experience with developing and teaching on-line courses is desirable and a willingness to teach courses online (or via Zoom) is required. While the primary expectation of the position is excellence in teaching, the selected candidate will have advising responsibilities and engage in service activities in the department, college, university and community as well as provide program administrative support.
The Department of Political Science offers Bachelor's degrees in Political Science, Professional Legal Studies, Legal Studies, International Affairs, and Philosophy and a Master's degree in Public Administration. The department currently has over 300 undergraduate majors matriculating through its programs. Our faculty are dedicated to improving the quality of life for students of multicultural backgrounds and, through a welcoming and supportive environment, helping them excel academically and socially.
