The College of Education invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, fixed-term, Assistant or Associate Professor of Teaching: Special Education position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.
Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, higher rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position will assist us in establishing a newly developed online master's degree in special education, an online graduate certificate in special education, as well as an undergraduate focus area. These programs include an emphasis on inclusive practices and asset- and growth-based approaches, rather than rehabilitation-based approaches.
We seek a colleague with scholarly and teaching expertise in at least one of the following areas: high incidence disabilities, literacy, mathematics, assessment, and practicum courses with an emphasis on issues of UDL and inclusive practices, multilingualism, equity, and/or social justice. The assistant or associate professor of teaching (non-tenure-track) will hold an academic appointment of 70% teaching, 20% research, and 10% service.
Within their home department of Educational Practice and Research, the incumbent will provide expertise in undergraduate and graduate teaching in special education along with a record of applied or engaged scholarship commensurate to their rank of assistant or associate professor. Experience with and dedication to online teaching excellence is required. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate with K-12 and university faculty in implementing a standards and outcome-based special education program.

Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.
Requirements :
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education or a related discipline.
Significant record of or demonstrated potential for engaged or applied scholarship, including production of independent and collaborative scholarship and grant writing efforts.
Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Research program and/or teaching experience in special education.
Experience with online teaching modalities and demonstrated experience with online student engagement.
Evidence of successful experiences supporting children and youth with disabilities and their families.
K-12 teaching experience including special education settings.
Evidence of successfully integrating social justice principles in teaching practices at the postsecondary level, including evidence of meeting needs of learners from underrepresented backgrounds.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Distinction and sustained effectiveness in teaching, advising, service and other assigned duties, curricular development, awards and recognition;
Distinction in scholarship, as evidenced in wide recognition and significant contributions to the field or profession;
Exemplary institutional and professional service.
