We are seeking a dedicated and visionary Associate Dean of Social Sciences to join our leadership team at Redeemer University, a Christ-centered institution committed to academic excellence and spiritual growth. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, academic experience, and a passion for integrating faith and learning in the social sciences.
Reporting to the Vice President, Academic, the Associate Dean of Social Sciencesprovides leadership for Redeemer’s social sciences programs by overseeing and supporting program development, curriculum, and faculty recruitment and development. The Associate Dean of Social Sciencesalso teaches in a discipline within the Social Sciences area (psychology, social work, sociology), and participates as a member of the academic executive leadership team, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the university.
Responsibilities
Work as a part of the senior academic leadership team to ensure mission alignment and strategic program growth and modification across programs and curriculum, both in delivery of existing programs and development of new programs.
Provide oversight for all academic, administrative and vision-related matters related to the Social Sciences area and programs.
Lead Social Sciences faculty in engaging with institutional strategic planning and the implementation of new initiatives.
Ensure Social Sciences faculty are effectively engaged in professional development in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Address student concerns as appropriate and in alignment with standards, policies, and procedures.
With a reduced teaching load, teach courses in one of the academic programs in the Social Sciences area, and possibly in the Core.
Provide leadership in an academic area such as the Core Program, Teaching and Learning, Mentoring, or Faculty Research, depending on the candidate’s skills and interests.
Education, Skills, and Attributes:
A mature personal faith in Jesus Christ, a deep understanding and personal conviction of the Reformed Christian worldview, and an ability to integrate and support the integration of faith in and learning in a Christian post-secondary context.
A terminal degree in a social sciences discipline and able to teach courses in one of the programs offered in Redeemer’s Social Sciences area (psychology, social work, sociology).
Ten years’ experience as an effective member of the faculty in an undergraduate liberal arts context.
Five or more years’ experience in an academic leadership position with oversight of program and/or faculty, such as department/division chair, director, associate dean or dean.
Superior oral, interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with faculty, students, potential students, and other internal stakeholders.
Exceptional people skills, including the ability to motivate faculty and staff members and create a relational and collaborative environment.
As a liberal arts and sciences university rooted in the Reformed tradition of Christianity, we seek candidates committed to this framework. Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching quality, the names of three individuals who have agreed to provide letters of reference should the applicant advance to a later stage of the process.
In addition to these materials, applicants must include a 1-page to 2-page document describing their own Christian faith commitment and practice, its alignment with Redeemer’s mission and its impact on their academic and professional work. A range of qualifications will be evaluated, including distinguishing characteristics that demonstrate congruence with Redeemer’s identity as a university in the Protestant and particularly Reformed Christian tradition. Applications are welcome from both faculty internal and external to Redeemer. The preferred start date is June 1, 2025, but a later date can be negotiated.
