The Assistant Professor of Chemistry plays a critical role in advancing the College’s mission to inspire, educate, and support students in their pursuit of academic and career success. They will mentor students, contribute to curriculum development, and collaborate with colleagues while maintaining a student-centered approach that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will also foster an inclusive learning environment, encouraging student achievement, and participate in professional development. The selected candidate must be prepared to instruct a range of chemistry courses especially those involving Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry, Introductory Organic Chemistry and Introductory Biochemistry. Additionally, lab sections including those corresponding to lecture courses taught by other faculty, will be required.
This position reports to the Dean for Math, Science & Engineering.
The salary range for this position is $77,693-$81,624 for a 176-day contract over the Instructional Year (Fall/Winter/Spring Quarters). Additional compensation may be available for assignment of summer quarter courses or courses taught outside of the full-time position during fall, winter and spring quarters. This position is in a hard to fill discipline eligible for additional money per MOU 002 – Hard to Fill Supplemental Pay and would receive an additional stipend of $5,950. This is not a guarantee of compensation and is subject to funding.
Relocation expenses are part of the employment offer for the successful candidate if the candidate relocates to the Tri-Cities area from outside of a 175-mile radius.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in chemistry from an institutionally accredited college or university;
Significant breadth of experience with chemical instrumentation;
One (1) year of college-level teaching experience or similar experience such as teaching apprenticeship, fellowship, etc.;
Experience with computer applications for instructional purposes (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, CANVAS, etc.); and
Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment, with a focus on supporting the academic success of Hispanic and other underserved populations. Experience incorporating inclusive pedagogy and addressing challenges unique to these populations, informed by both personal and professional insights.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and in Spanish;
Doctorate degree in Chemistry from an institutionally accredited college or university; and
Experience with eLearning techniques and modalities such as web-supported courses, hybrid courses, or other distance learning applications.
Columbia Basin College (CBC) serves the citizens of Benton and Franklin counties in Washington state with two-year associate degrees for transfer to a four-year university, and applied degrees for workforce employment. CBC also provides one-year certificates and basic skills for those pursuing a GED or high school diploma. CBC serves approximately 7,000-8,000 students each quarter.Columbia Basin College now offers bachelor degrees in Nursing, Project Management, Applied Management, Cyber Security, Information Technology, and Dental Hygiene. These bachelor degrees are in direct response to the needs of our community. As a result of community needs, Columbia Basin College has recently opened our new state of the art Social Sciences and World Languages Center at the Pasco campus.In July 2017, CBC will open its second, four-story Health Science Center in Richland. In addition to training CBC healthcare professionals, the Wortman Medical Science Center will also be a functional medical clinic as part of Kadlec Regional Medical Center’s family medicine residency program.CBC will open a student housing facility in September.
