The Lower School program at The Bolles School serves children in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5, fostering a love of learning in an intimate and innovative environment. Position Purpose: The Learning Support Teacher collaborates with lead teachers to enhance instructional practices, provide targeted student support, and contribute to a dynamic and effective learning environment. This role involves co-planning lessons, implementing instructional strategies, and assisting with classroom management. The Learning Support Teacher works closely with small groups or individual students to address diverse learning needs, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. By fostering collaboration and continuous improvement, the Learning Support Teacher enriches the educational experience for both students and faculty.
Essential Functions:
Classroom Instruction and Student Engagement
Plan and implement lessons and activities aligned with the lower school curriculum, ensuring a balanced approach to instruction, demonstration, and practice.
Collaborate with lead teachers to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse student needs and interests.
Foster a classroom environment that encourages exploration, questioning, and hands-on learning.
Instruct students individually and in groups using varied teaching methods, including discussions, demonstrations, and active participation.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons and assignments.
Assess student progress through tests, assignments, and observations, providing timely feedback and adjusting instruction as necessary.
Collaboration with Lead Teachers
Partner with lead teachers on lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional strategies.
Assist with instructional delivery, small group work, and other classroom needs.
Provide additional instructional support or coverage as needed, ensuring smooth transitions and consistent learning experiences.
Participate in regular meetings with lead teachers to review student progress, discuss challenges, and plan upcoming lessons.
Student Support and Communication
In collaboration with lead teachers, meet with parents, guardians, and colleagues to discuss student progress and address concerns.
Provide students with diverse materials and resources to support academic growth and imaginative play.
Actively support students’ social and emotional development by modeling and fostering positive behavior and interpersonal skills.
Collaboration and Professional Growth
Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to develop, evaluate, and enhance lower school programs.
Engage in professional development opportunities, including further education, workshops, and conferences, to stay current on teaching practices and technology integration.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience teaching elementary-aged children preferred.
Experience in learning support preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills, particularly in team-teaching or support roles.
Proficiency in integrating technology into the classroom to enhance learning.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom or school campus for extended periods.
Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, such as books, classroom materials, or equipment.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed for classroom activities or assisting students.
Visual and auditory ability to monitor student performance and safety.
Ability to use classroom technology, including interactive boards, projectors, and other multimedia tools.
