JOB DESCRIPTION

The Upper School History teacher will be responsible for providing a student-centered, supportive approach in history instruction for students in grades 9-12.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides direct instruction to students in History. Core classes include Political Science, Modern World Studies, Modern U.S. Studies, Psychology, and Western Civilization.
• Develops an ongoing working knowledge of each individual student’s educational and emotional needs.
• Effectively collaborates with learning specialists to integrate recommended teaching strategies into content area classes.
• Communicates with parents to address learning concerns of students.
• Provides individual student assessment as needed.
• Shows evidence of adapting and differentiated instruction for all students.
• Maintains complete and accurate records that are reflective of a student’s performance and growth in knowledge.
• Develops and maintains genuine, positive and consistent communication with parents.
• Contributes to and benefits from the campus community.
• Practices professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection and continuous improvement.
• Participates in curriculum writing and other developmental programs and activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education or related field is required for consideration.
• A 9-12 History Teaching Certification
• A plus:
  • Special Education Teaching Certification and/or Reading Specialist Certification.
  • Experience with students with learning differences and ADHD is a plus as well as mentoring experience.

• The ideal candidate is outgoing, well organized, competent in basic computer skills and is an individual who is eager to work in a highly dynamic, energetic school setting.
