Princeton Day School is seeking a Middle School French Teacher beginning in the 2025-26 school year. Successful candidates will be eager to help students develop the skills to communicate in the target language, and will be invested in creating classroom opportunities for students to explore the francophone world and cultures. Candidates should be able to teach the complete range of middle school students, from introductory to advanced levels.
In addition to teaching 4 sections of French (3-4 preps), a full-time teacher contributes to the community life of PDS as an advisor of 6-12 students, has various duties, and is expected to contribute to school life outside the classroom in an extracurricular activity, such as coaching or clubs. One to four times a semester, a weekend or evening activity or campus event may be required.
For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:
Teach four sections of French
Advise a group of 6-12 students
Fulfill middle school duties
Contribute to school life outside of the classroom
Assess students’ academic progress
Provide clear oral and written feedback to students and communicate with families as needed
Collaboratively work on curriculum development and alignment, and attend Department meetings
Foster a learning environment that is student centered and that supports students’ social and emotional needs
Differentiate teaching and learning based on students’ cognitive needs and learning style
Possess a well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Independently and collaboratively prepare curricula that balance linguistic mastery, cultural understanding, and joy of learning a new language
Develop creative formative and summative experiences and assessments to evaluate student learning
Provide opportunities for student self-assessment and engagement in the learning process
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in French language, literature, history and/or culture
Minimum 3 years of proven success teaching middle school students
Demonstrated experience at both introductory and advanced levels
Complete command of the language
Strong background, beyond the language, in French and francophone cultural traditions, history and literature
Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, and to communicate and lead through strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in French language, literature, history and/or culture
Instructional design, curriculum development and assessment experience (developing, delivering, and assessing)
