About Bertschi School Bertschi School, founded in 1975, is a Washington State approved elementary school serving students in grades pre-kindergarten to fifth. We are an accredited member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
Position General Description Bertschi School is seeking a progressive educator to lead the school’s science program beginning in August 2025. Bertschi’s science teacher will teach in our state of the art Living Building and continue to push the community’s growth in the area of science.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in science, elementary education, or related field
Master’s degree and teaching certificate preferred
Demonstrated effectiveness as a science teacher with a minimum of two years of experience teaching elementary science
Experience in curriculum development and collaborative planning
In-depth knowledge of standards and innovative practices in elementary science education
Experience teaching diverse student populations and partnering with diverse families
Proven commitment to environmental sustainability and environmental justice in practice and pedagogy
Responsibilities
Design and implement Bertschi’s science curriculum for students in first to fifth grade
Teach interactive and inspirational Science lessons to students in 1-5th grade
Develop student skills in building and revising evidence-based explanations related to the natural world.
Continue to align Berschi’s science curriculum to build a progression of concept and skill development across grade levels
Develop partnerships and collaborate with the school’s teachers to support interdisciplinary science curriculum
Participate fully in the life of the school community
Commitment to continued professional development
Support students with diverse learning needs to access science curriculum with the support of the director or learning services and instructional coach.
Prepare and order materials for lessons and manage the budget.
Work with technology integration and robotics specialists to support robotics lessons.
