Job Description:
Falk College seeks a part-time instructor to teach SWK 754 Sec. M700 Death, Dying, and Terminal Illness (3 credits) in the Summer 2025 (5/12/2025-8/22/2025) semester. Class meets online: Mondays, 7:30-9:00 PM EST (Sync), w/async content management (async opens 5/5/2025)
Course Description: Death, dying, terminal illness, and coping with trauma and loss impacting individuals, families, and identified social networks. Social work practice, theory, and ethics surrounding the dying process. Companion animals considered. Requires prior clinical coursework
Course Overview:
The primary aim of this course is to explore the meaning of death, terminal illness, and coping strategies associated therewith. Theoretical consideration is given to aspects of dying and the death process. Attention to areas of social work practice vis--vis ethical and practice issues of the dying patient and loved ones adjusting to interpersonal loss will be covered. Attention is also given to the human-animal bond and the loss of a beloved animal companion.
Rudiments of comprehensive service provision to the terminally ill and bereaved individuals via particular interventions, animal-assisted therapies, and models of practice is addressed. Recognition of ways in which culture, ethnicity, and human diversity shape the bereavement experience is underscored throughout the course.
Qualifications:
An MSW with previous online graduate-level social work teaching experience preferred.
Candidate must have 2 years post-masters experience.
Must be able to teach online.

Preparation of lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
Meeting all designated class periods.
Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
Completion and submission of CSWE competency-based student outcomes for department assessment/accreditation.
Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
