West End Day School (WEDS) is More Than A School - it is a community of students, staff, and parents who have a shared vision. WEDS, a pioneer in the practice of social-emotional teaching, is an independent, special education school in New York City for 1st through 8th graders, with an upcoming expansion to the 8th grade in 2025-2026. Position Overview
Seeking a passionate and innovative STEM teacher who will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction at various educational levels in elementary and middle school classrooms. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity and critical thinking through engaging, hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math instruction. Our optimal candidate would also have a strong desire to create STEM-related elective courses that foster students' interest in subjects like robotics, coding, engineering, and scientific inquiry. As our STEM teacher, you empower students to explore real-world applications and develop essential problem-solving skills by fostering a dynamic and inclusive classroom. This is a full-time position, but part-time may be considered for a strong candidate upon request.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement engaging STEM curricula that aligns with educational standards and with current trends in technology, engineering, and science education
Foster a hands-on, inquiry-based learning environment that encourages problem-solving and critical thinking
Integrate technology and real-world applications into lesson plans to enhance student engagement
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities
Design and implement engaging STEM-related elective courses, as well as manage and lead STEM-related clubs
Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary projects and initiatives
Assess student progress through various evaluation methods and provide constructive feedback
Inspire a passion for STEM subjects and careers through innovative teaching strategies.
Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports student growth.
Organize STEM-related extracurricular activities or clubs
Stay updated on current trends in STEM education and incorporate best practices into instruction.
Encourage student participation in STEM-related extracurricular activities, including competitions, fairs, and projects
Qualifications
Education and Certification:
A bachelor's degree in education (elementary, secondary education, or special education)
A master's degree in Special Education or STEM-related field is preferred
Valid New York State Teacher certification
Experience:
Experience teaching STEM subjects, preferably at the elementary and middle school level
Background in developing and implementing STEM curriculum tailored to different skill levels and learning styles
Experience working with students with special needs is preferred

Compensation
This position's annual salary is 70,000-80,000. West End Day School considers factors such as the candidate’s work experience and education/training when extending an offer.
