The Department of Childhood Studies at Bridgewater State University is an inclusive, interdisciplinary community of scholars who analyze social and cultural constructions of childhood and seek evidence-based solutions to the challenges and inequities facing children and youth today. Our goals are to educate and inspire undergraduate students to be broad-based, systems thinkers prepared to advocate for children, youth, and families locally and globally. Essential Duties:
The Department of Childhood Studies (CHST) invites applications for a full-time, benefitted, one year faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. A strong commitment to and experience in interdisciplinary education and scholarship is desirable. Our program is offered to traditional day students and continuing studies students. The successful candidate will possess a commitment to and knowledge of various forms of online teaching and learning and supporting student wellbeing. The position includes advising at least 30 students per semester.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Teach the full-time equivalent of 4 Childhood Studies courses per semester. Courses include Introduction to Childhood Studies, Service Learning in Childhood Studies, History of Western Childhood, Second-Year Seminar and Research Methods.
Use teaching methods to support the development of appropriate knowledge and skills through in-person and digital (online and technology-enhanced) interactions.
Use innovative and effective teaching and learning techniques and resources that support the development of appropriate knowledge and skills for CHST students.
Collect information for program assessments.
Attend weekly departments (virtual or in-person)
Contribute to the ongoing development, design, and enhancement of the curriculum of the Childhood Studies Major, in a manner that supports an interdisciplinary, innovative, and inclusive approach to student learning and satisfactory overall student experiences.
Engage in scholarship and service that combines expertise in Childhood Studies with a focus on pedagogy.
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree awarded in a relevant field of expertise.
Experience in teaching relevant subjects at the undergraduate level, with evidence of innovative, inclusive, and effective teaching, and ability to engage and inspire traditional and post-traditional students.
Completion of appropriate training in and/or demonstrated engagement with equal opportunities, diversity, inclusion, and intercultural competencies.
Knowledge and understanding of subjects in the field of Childhood Studies, and the ability to connect this expertise to a range of disciplines and contexts.
Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
A track record of scholarship focused on interdisciplinary studies and/or educational inquiry/scholarship of teaching and learning, appropriate to the career stage.
Interests and experience in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on the connections between different disciplines represented at Bridgewater State University,
Experience in designing and delivering online modules in Higher Education.
Experience in providing academic advice to students.
Experience with a variety of Higher Education assessment procedures and providing beneficial feedback.
