Syracuse University College of Law invites applications from entry-level candidates for tenure-track positions on the law faculty
Syracuse University College of Law invites applications from entry-level candidates for tenure-track positions with an expected start date of August 2026. We welcome applications from candidates across all areas of law but have particular interest in scholars teaching and writing in torts, constitutional law, and/or civil procedure. Candidates are expected to teach courses in both the residential law program and in our online JD interactive program, and can expect to teach a first-year course or a core upper-division course, along with other courses as needed.
We are seeking individuals who are or have the potential to become outstanding scholars and excellent teachers. Candidates should have a distinguished academic record, including a J.D. from an accredited law school. Preferred post-J.D. experience and credentials include advanced degrees, judicial clerkships, relevant legal practice, or similar experience. Candidates must have the skills to effectively interact with groups of students, colleagues, and community members from all different backgrounds.
The salary range for an Associate Professor, depending on experience, is $125,000 to $145,000 with benefits. Syracuse University is committed to creating an environment that is welcoming to all. Priority consideration will be given to applications received on or before August 20, 2025.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have an excellent academic record and should hold a JD degree from an accredited law school.
Job Specific Qualifications:
Preferred post-JD experience and credentials include advanced degree, judicial clerkship, relevant legal practice, or similar experience.
A demonstrated commitment to excellent classroom teaching and scholarship is required.
Candidates will be expected to teach a first-year course or a core upper-division course.
Responsibilities:
Maintain an active research agenda.
Fulfill committee service requirements.
Develop and/or update a class syllabus in compliance with College of Law policies.
Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
Prepare lectures, projects, and other student assignments.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
Meet all designated class periods.
Submit all grades according to the College of Law and University regulations.
Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
Build a positive rapport with students and faculty.
