Applicants must have a doctoral degree in an area relevant to ecology, conservation, or environmental studies and experience in environmental education and/or public programming. Practical experience in environmental advocacy in the Chicago area is preferred.

The Social Sciences and New Collegiate Divisions at the University of Chicago are now accepting applications for a part-time, non-benefits-eligible Lecturer to teach one course as part an immersive quarter on “The Calumet: The Power of Place” in spring of 2026. The quarter will focus on the Calumet region, extending from Chicago’s south side along Lake Michigan into Indiana and Michigan, and explore the relationship between its natural and social environments. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching one seminar-style course, holding regularly scheduled office hours, preparing and grading assignments, and attending staff meetings. Courses in the Calumet Quarter will also utilize weekly excursions, guest speakers, engagement with civic groups and community leaders, and fieldwork to enrich class readings and assignments.
