Job Summary
Brookstone School seeks a dynamic and dedicated Upper School Social Studies Teacher. Strong candidates will demonstrate a passion for teaching, a commitment to student-centered learning, and a desire to contribute to a collaborative school community.

Essential Job Duties
Instructional Responsibilities
Plans and implements a program of instruction aligned with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Brookstone School.
Develops purposeful, well-structured lesson plans that utilize effective instructional strategies and maximize time on task.
Designs and delivers a program of study that addresses the diverse academic needs and abilities of students.
Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning through the use of varied, developmentally appropriate teaching strategies.
Fosters student enthusiasm for learning and promotes the development of strong study skills and academic habits.
Demonstrates a strong command of subject matter and best practices in science instruction.
Communicates effectively through clear oral and written expression with students, families, and colleagues.
Curriculum and Assessment
Maintains current knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and learning theory and contributes to the continual improvement of the school’s curriculum.
Participates in ongoing curriculum review and revision, including the development and refinement of written courses of study.
Assesses student learning regularly using multiple, appropriate assessment methods.
Adjusts instructional strategies and curriculum as directed by the Division Head to support student growth.
Provides timely progress and interim reports in accordance with school policies.
Classroom Management and Student Support
Establishes and consistently enforces reasonable classroom expectations in accordance with school guidelines.
Takes appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of students and the responsible use of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Identifies learning challenges and collaborates with colleagues and support services to make appropriate referrals.
Shares responsibility for the supervision of students throughout the school day and in all areas of the campus.
Ensures continuity of instruction by providing lesson plans and assignments for substitute teachers during excused absences.
School & Community Engagement
Upholds and supports board policies, administrative procedures, and school rules, representing the school positively to the broader community.
Demonstrates professional work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and the appropriate use of conference and planning time.
Communicates the positive aspects of the school through both words and actions.
Works collaboratively with parents and guardians to strengthen students’ educational experiences.
Establishes and maintains respectful, cooperative relationships with colleagues and staff.
Professional Conduct and Collaboration
Engages in ongoing professional growth through workshops, conferences, seminars, and/or advanced coursework.
Collaborates with administration in planning and participating in professional learning and in-service opportunities.
Attends and participates in required faculty, department, and committee meetings.
Maintains confidentiality of records and information related to students, families, and colleagues in accordance with professional ethics and state and federal regulations.
Completes tasks in a timely manner
Communicates effectively in both written and verbal forms
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in history or other closely related discipline required; Master’s degree preferred
Additional Skills:
Experience teaching a variety of social studies courses in grades 9–12
