Tower Hill School seeks to hire a talented and energetic Upper School History teacher to start in August 2026. The candidate should have strong historical content knowledge, a love for history and current events, and a commitment to fostering the skills of historical analysis, persuasive writing, and critical thinking in students.The Department also espouses the teaching of various perspectives and voices so that our curriculum offers both mirrors and windows for all of our students. This is a full-time, benefitted, 10-month position.
Essential Functions:
Teach four sections of History per semester
Tower Hill offers full year required courses in both 9th and 10th grades, planned in collaborative grade-level teaching teams
Electives comprise the program for 11th and 12th graders; these include semester courses based on themes or topics in history and the social sciences
The specific teaching assignment will be based on the background and specialties of the teacher, as well as the needs of the department
Work collaboratively with other teachers to develop, implement, and document a horizontally aligned curriculum across sections and a vertically aligned curriculum across years.
Serve as an advisor for up to 10 students
Engage fully with the THS community including, but not limited to, participation in all school-wide assemblies, faculty meetings, department meetings, and various faculty supervisory duties.
Engage with student life and/or athletics
Deliver rigorous and engaging content and instruction to students with passion and a willingness to help students succeed
Embody a mastery-orientation, gearing assessment and instructional methods toward student growth and understanding
Meet Essential Expectations required of all teachers
Desired Qualifications:
History teaching experience at the secondary level preferred but not required
Strong pedagogical training or background
A strong interest in, general knowledge of, or experience with teaching world history
Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or related field (master’s degree preferred)
Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
Enthusiasm for professional growth, academic excellence and creative teaching
Ability to plan and organize educational content
Commitment to broad participation in school life
Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
Commitment to safeguard and promote the welfare of students
