The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated educator to teach 10th grade Chemistry beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Serving more than 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education.
Faculty at The Covenant School understand teaching as a Christian vocation. They take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate a community of scholars in which students are known, challenged, and formed in habits of thought and character for lives of faithful service.
Position Overview:
The Upper School Chemistry teacher will teach college-preparatory and Honors-level Chemistry courses in Grade 10. Chemistry plays a central role in the Upper School science curriculum, helping students develop habits of careful observation, disciplined reasoning, and wonder at the created order through both classroom instruction and laboratory work.
We are seeking an educator who enjoys working with adolescents and who can establish an orderly, respectful, and intellectually vibrant classroom. The Chemistry teacher approaches this work with both intellectual seriousness and care for students’ formation, guiding students to think precisely, work carefully, and take responsibility for their learning. Through hands-on laboratory experiences and thoughtful instruction, students learn to engage the material world with curiosity, humility, and rigor.
In keeping with the school’s mission, the teacher integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into instruction, allowing Christian truth to illuminate the study of chemistry while honoring the integrity of the discipline and the practices of scientific inquiry.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field required
Advanced degree preferred
Experience teaching high school science preferred; experience teaching Honors-level courses a plus
Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically and thoughtfully in the context of teaching
We welcome candidates whose experiences and backgrounds enrich this shared work, within a community shaped by a shared commitment to the school’s Christian mission and educational vision.
