The Department of Educational Leadership at Ball State University invites applications for Department Chair and Associate or Full Professor. Our department is seeking a collaborative, student-centered, and innovative individual to lead an outstanding team of faculty while promoting diversity, equity and excellence throughout all leadership programs, K-20. Our faculty are collegial, collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and adaptive, both within and beyond one's home unit. These attributes include commitments to collaborative discourse, interdisciplinary inquiry, and enterprising learning practices. This is a nationally-recognized and growing department with 10 full-time faculty members serving more than 500 students who are earning certificate, degrees, and licensure at the Masters, Specialist, and Doctoral level. Programs are both hybrid and online in our college (Teachers College). Preference will be given to candidates with previous higher education leadership experience and growing academic programs.

The Department of Educational Leadership at Ball State University, a respected leader in delivering high quality programs for administrative degree and licensure and higher education, is seeking outstanding applicants for Department Chair available August 2023. The department is
interested in an innovative and collaborative professional with demonstrated excellence in educational leadership and practical experience in the field.
The Chairperson of an academic department is the chief executive of the department. The Chairperson plans, directs, and coordinates the academic, operational, personnel, budgetary, and student activities of the department; provides leadership and direction in the development
and implementation of academic programs and in the maintenance of excellence in teaching scholarly productivity or creative endeavor, and service.
Lifelong learning at Ball State University extends educational engagement beyond the classroom and includes learning for professional development, personal enrichment, or other goals throughout one's lifetime. Faculty will be expected to participate in the department's, college's, and university's lifelong learning opportunities when available and may be assigned teaching responsibility in this area as part of their overall responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Serve as the department's primary spokesperson and representative to the college, university, and external community.
- Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of academic programs and curriculum within the department.
- In cooperation with the faculty, engage in short- and long-range planning for the department.
- Assign faculty load.
- Act as fiscal agent for the department and allocate funds and resources in a manner designed to achieve excellence.
- Engage in teaching, research, and service.
- Support excellence in departmental teaching, research and service.
- Monitor departmental advising including policies and written materials.
- Provide supervision of academic programs, faculty, staff and management of the department office, (e.g., supervision of promotion and tenure, departmental appeals, committee assignments, etc.).
- Assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to interviewing and selection, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, and training and career development of personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A doctorate in educational administration or educational leadership, policy, Higher Education or related fields from an accredited institution.
Experience: Record of teaching excellence, research, and service commensurate with associate, or full professor level; successful record of university teaching online and face-to-face; demonstrated success in teaching and advising graduate students; demonstrated commitment to social justice, impactful research agenda, documented by recent scholarly publications; a continued commitment to engage in scholarly research publications and presentations; proven leadership ability; proven ability to work with diverse groups

Preferred Qualifications:
University teaching experience; experience in administration in higher education; experience as a P-12 school or district administrator. Record of grant writing and directing; having served as department chair or equivalent leadership role; proficiency with budgets, resource
management, and new technologies; knowledgeable about leadership preparation; skilled at hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff; holds (or has held) administrative licensure for the principal-ship or superintendency; aptitude to learn integrated technology applications; willingness and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners; understanding of current issues and educational policy in P-20 contexts
