The new Dana G. Hoyt Fine Arts Building includes state-of-the-art lecture halls and classrooms, studios, computer labs, and galleries. In addition to the University Art Gallery on campus, the Department exhibits student work at a Satellite Gallery in downtown Huntsville and has MFA studios in the Natural Science and Art Research Center a few blocks away. Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
The Department of Art at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor of Art starting to begin August 2023.
We are seeking applicants with an MFA who have an interdisciplinary studio practice and the desire to teach collaboratively in a foundation program. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team, teaching in WASH (Workshop in Art Studio and History). WASH is a nine-credit hour program that includes 2 studio courses (Surface Studio & Space Studio) and a lecture course emphasizing contemporary art and theory.
The ideal candidates will be artists working in new media, installation, performance and video, hybrid forms, or who have innovative approaches that expand the boundaries of traditional mediums. Artists working in social practice and willing to incorporate community engagement into the curriculum are preferred.
Duties include teaching 3 courses per semester and service on departmental committees.
