Description:
The candidate for this position will assist in developing and implementing a mathematical and computational model of a marine atmospheric boundary layer laden with evaporating sea spray. Additionally, this position will provide an infrastructure for a research program in mathematical fluid dynamics, advanced numerical methods and scientific computing with an applications to modeling of tropical cyclone dynamics

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College of Science and Technology integrates science, mathematics, and technology to advance knowledge and prepare the next generation of science and technology leaders. The College embraces the mission of the University as a land-grant doctoral research institution with a distinction in STEM by expanding new frontiers in science, creating novel technologies, developing innovative approaches to STEM teaching and learning, and formulating scientific and technological solutions that lead to transformative social and economic development. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the PhD Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers degree programs in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics Secondary Education at the B.S. level, Applied Mathematics at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Data Science and Analytics within the multidisciplinary PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department also offers two minor programs in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Secondary Education, and an undergraduate certificate program in Data Science and Analytics, and is a major contributor to an online graduate certificate program in Data Analytics offered by the Graduate College. In terms of student credit hours taught, it is, as befits a STEM oriented university, the largest department in the College of Science and Technology.

Requirements:
- Ph.D. Degree either in Atmospheric Sciences, Applied Mathematics,
Physics, Engineering or other relevant field.
- prior experience in theoretical and computational fluid dynamics,
turbulence, multiphase flows, and mathematical and CFD modeling.
- hands-on background in numerical methods and programming skills in
matlab and/or fortran90.
- experience with symbolic algebra (e.g. Mathematica, Maple) would be
a plus but not required.
