Course details
This is an introductory course on linear algebra. The course introduces students to both the theory of vector spaces and linear transformations and the techniques such as row-reduction of matrices and diagonalisation, which can be applied to problems in areas such as engineering, economics, and mathematics, computer science, etc. As well as mastering techniques, it is important that the students get to grips with the more abstract ideas of linear algebra, and learn to understand and write correct mathematical arguments. Taking an active approach to problem-solving is also important. The class will consist of a mixture of lectures, working on problems and class discussions.
Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics or a related field. We seek candidates who can integrate interdisciplinary perspectives in teaching the course. Ideally, we seek candidates with two to three years of experience teaching at the university level; experience teaching American undergraduates is helpful. Candidates should present experience and commitment to interdisciplinarity and a teaching approach informed by global and local perspectivesThe successful candidate should have the right to live and work in Italy prior to appointment.
Candidates must submit a cover letter and a current C.V. Please include in your cover letter a short teaching statement. Applications must be made online through Interfolio at apply.interfolio.com/149818. All application material should be uploaded by September 30, 2024.
