Are you passionate about sharing knowledge with eager young minds? Are you inspired by the chance to be an influential member of an innovative educational community?
The Grayson School is an innovative, research-based learning institution guided by best practices in gifted education. Offering a Pre-K through grade 12 program with summer and enrichment classes open to the community, Grayson is the only “all gifted, all day” school of its kind within a 100-mile radius. The Grayson School provides high-ability learners with a setting where they can learn at a pace and level consistent with their abilities, collaborate with like-minded peers, and explore their unlimited potential, while also growing and thriving socially and emotionally.
We are looking for individuals who excel at flexible and creative thinking; who see themselves as learners rather than lecturers; who have excellent content mastery as well as solid teaching experience; who are enthusiastic, highly motivated, committed, and eager to join a community that is passionate about supporting gifted children.
You will be expected to teach and individual lessons for students on various instruments while fostering an effective, engaging, student-centered learning environment. An emphasis on voice and singing is desirable. This position is currently part-time and hours may be flexible; there is a preference for afternoon/afterschool hour availability. Opportunities for growth, professional development, and leadership are significant as the school continues to expand.
YOU MUST HAVE:
Advanced musical content mastery.
Up-to-date (less than 1 year old) clearances prior to beginning work, including Federal Criminal History, PA State Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Mandated Reporter training, TB test, Act 168, and any additional required clearances (we can assist the qualified candidate in obtaining these prior to starting).
An appreciation of both the intellectual and social-emotional needs of gifted children.
The ability to clearly articulate evaluations and opportunities for our students and school in both written and spoken communication.
IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF:
You have an advanced degree in music or education.
You also have experience teaching small group string lessons.
You are fluent with the Kodaly and Orff-Schulwerk music teaching methodologies.
You enjoy singing and have a great voice.
You have experience working with gifted children.
You see profound connections between music, math, and color theory.
You find yourself harmonizing with random auditory stimuli, like the beep of your microwave, the whine of airplane engine, or the song of a bird.
