The Museum's Youth Initiatives (YI) division, within the department of Education, is seeking a full-time Senior Manager of Youth Learning and Teaching. The Senior Manager leads and supports an outstanding group of informal educators to hone their practice and deliver innovative, student-centered and equity-centered STEM education.
The YI group is dedicated to STEM workforce development and science enrichment for youth ages 10 to 24. YI aspires to be a hub and model for youth science learning and engagement that responds to institutional and societal discrimination that prevents full participation in science by all young people. The YI team is looking for candidates committed to this vision and passionate about building a more just and equitable community of STEM learners and leaders.
Job duties:
Lead the organization, design and teaching of YI course curriculum, with a focus on pedagogies driven by access and equity and centered around learners.
Manage and maintain YI's curriculum portfolio.
Work with senior staff to identify curriculum design needs, in support of the Museum's priorities and scientific advances.
Manage the curriculum design process, including setting benchmarks and implementing evaluation metrics.
Manage, mentor and train the curriculum design team. Identify and acquire any expert resources needed to support the curriculum design process.
Support the development of a Museum scope and sequence for middle and high school STEM learning.
Supervise YI Museum educators.
Create sustainable systems. Support a culture for ongoing reflective practice for the educator team. Collaborate on the work of cross-departmental staff learning initiatives, including working with senior staff to develop and co-lead monthly professional learning sessions. Identify areas for ongoing professional development.
Design curriculum and teach, including teaching/co-teaching one to two courses annually.
Disseminate and/or acquire knowledge via participation at conferences.
Maintain a Tuesday-Saturday schedule, including occasional evening responsibilities.
The expected salary range for the Senior Manager of Youth Learning and Teaching is $80,000/annual - $86,000/annual.The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or graduate-level degree in education, science, museum studies, social work or another relevant field.
Three years experience in STEM teaching in formal or informal spaces.
Proven experience leading professional learning opportunities for STEM.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a supervisory role.
Experience leading educators in professional learning.
Experience developing professional learning opportunities.
Experience with culturally-relevant pedagogy of justice-informed education.
