Working closely with the Head of Middle School, History Department Chair, Eighth-Grade Team, and History Department colleagues, they will teach four U.S. History courses to eighth-grade students through engaging activities and student-centered pedagogy.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED:
Serve as faculty advisor to ten to fifteen middle school students
Complete requisite middle school faculty duties such as study hall supervision, recess duty, carpool, etc.
Coach or lead extra-curricular activities as agreed upon with the Head of Middle School
Serve as a member of the History Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree in History or a related field is required; advanced degree preferred
Collaborative spirit in developing ideas, curricula, and teaching methods with members of the history department and colleagues across all disciplines.
Experience teaching organizational, note-taking skills, and research skills
Confidence in teaching writing
Understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students
Ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all learners in the classroom
Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom
