This is a full-time, probationary position within the School of Urban Education.

Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- Serve as academic advisor for all prospective and current undergraduate students at Metro State seeking admission to the Urban Teacher Program to assist them with gaining program admission, planning their degree/program completion plans, navigating educational requirements and supports, and persisting to successfully complete their courses and/or degrees for teacher licensure.
- Lead, manage, determine, update, monitor and communicate undergraduate student admission processes and decisions for the Urban Teacher Program in collaboration with colleagues.
- Design, develop and manage projects, events and activities related to program advising and admissions consistent with the School of Urban Education's mission, vision and guiding principles.
- Review and collaborate to improve unit policies and goals on program admission and advising, including planning, assessment, decision-making and accountability for continuous program improvement that enhances advising and student services within the School of Urban Education in the context of Metro State as a Minority Serving Institution.

- Master's degree plus one year of professional experience in academic advising, counseling, or student development in a higher education setting;
Or
Bachelor's degree plus two years of professional experience in academic advising, counseling, or student development in a higher education setting;
Or
Earned NACADA Academic Advising Graduate Certificate and 3 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or student development in a higher education setting
Bachelor's degree plus two years of professional experience in academic advising, counseling, or student development in a higher education setting;
Or
Earned NACADA Academic Advising Graduate Certificate and 3 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or student development in a higher education setting
- Experience serving a racially, ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse student body including first-generation students, LGBTQIA+-identifying students, and students of various socio-economic backgrounds;
- Demonstrated knowledge of a complex body of advising concepts, theories, practices and procedures related to supporting post-traditional student admission, retention and success; including approaches such as intrusive advising, developmental advising, and student success strategies;
- Demonstrated ability to integrate knowledge of the multiple roles of an advisor in an effective and timely way to support post-traditional students gaining admission and completing their complex degree/licensure program requirements while managing other responsibilities in their personal and professional lives;
- Demonstrated ability to relate the multiple functions of an academic advisor to the broader work and mission of the University by collaborating with colleagues within and beyond one's own unit or department to support student success;
- Demonstrates excellent, culturally responsive communication skills (oral and written, interpersonal, intercultural, non-verbal and group presentation) to effectively communicate and build positive rapport with students, faculty, university colleagues, and community partners;
- Possesses computer skills necessary for the position, including producing word documents; tracking and responding to emails; conducting virtual meetings; using database, spreadsheets, record-keeping and appointment scheduling software; making presentations, and implementing customer relationship management systems.

- Earned teaching licensure through a non-alternative pathway;
- Experience teaching in preK-12 settings, especially with diverse urban children or youth;
- Experience providing academic advising through remote means (e.g. Zoom, telephone, email, or social media, or other innovative strategies) to connect with students in a prompt and regular manner;
- Experience working with college students in at least two of the following areas: orientation, strategies for academic success, advising, teaching college level courses, tutoring/mentoring, first year experience courses, financial literacy, financial aid, or learning communities;
- A record of professional development related to serving post-traditional and diverse students, including development on topics such as anti-racism, equity and inclusion;
- Experience with developing plans for and managing large projects;
- Experience assessing outcomes, analyzing gaps in service, and recommending, designing and/or implementing changes to improve current practices; and
- Familiarity with ISRS, RightNow, DARS, ARSA and/or other student records systems as well as online customer relationship management systems.

Benefits Info:
Salary: This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range C position with a salary range of $44,354 (minimum) to $76,826 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) and the MSUAASF organization.
