Princeton Day School is seeking a full-time, experienced Upper School Latin teacher beginning in the 2023-24 school year.
A full-time teacher teaches 4 classes, is an advisor to 8-10 students, has various duties, and is expected to contribute to the school life outside the classroom in an extracurricular activity.
Our Classics program emphasizes reading comprehension, translation and immersion into the cultures and history of Antiquity. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead a strong and flourishing Classics program and to support its continued success.
The ideal candidate is expected to:
Teach the complete range of PDS high school students, from introductory level to Advanced Placement Latin
Spearhead the Classics team and organize opportunities for students outside of the classroom (trips, participation in competitions, club activities, etc.)
Develop curriculum with department members (Classics and Modern languages)
Foster a learning environment that is student centered and that supports students’ social and emotional needs
Differentiate teaching and learning based on students’ cognitive needs and learning style
Develop creative formative and summative experiences and assessments to evaluate student learning
Provide opportunities for student self-assessment and engagement in the learning process
Provide consistent oral and written communication to students and families
Contribute to the community life of PDS
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in classical studies
Minimum 3 years of proven success teaching high school students
Demonstrated experience at both introductory and AP levels
Complete command of the language
Strong background, beyond the language, in history and literature
Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, and to communicate and lead through strong interpersonal skills
Competency in teaching introductory Greek
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Degree in Classical studies
Instructional design, curriculum development and assessment experience
Experience with interdisciplinary work
Experience teaching in independent schools
Experience teaching Greek
